DADE CITY – The Pasco Pirates got off to a great start Friday night against their rival Zephyrhills but faltered in the second quarter and eventually came up short by 7-points, 41-34.

It was a great start for the Pirates who were leading after the opening 8 minutes 15-6. Emilia Cameron was big for Pasco in the opening period scoring 9 of their 16 points. However, the second period was riddled with turnovers and mistakes that allowed Zephyrhills to take command and lead at the half 25-19.

The Bulldogs second period rally was led by Maya Llanes with 9 points that included two from the 3-point range. Etrinity Stewart contributed 6 points.

The second half was almost even with Zephyrhills adding 16 points and Pasco 15, so it was that flat second session that led to the Pirates demise. The Pasco only managed 50% from the free throw line (9 of 18), while Zephyrhills went 14 for 25.

Llanes and Taja McCullough were the Bulldogs in double figures with 12 each. Cameron led Pasco with 14 points and was the only Pirate in double figures.
