WESLEY CHAPEL – The number three seed Wiregrass Ranch Lady Bulls advanced to the FHSAA 5A District 7 finals Tuesday night by defeating the number two Plant Panthers 1-0 in a shutout.

The Bulls swept the regular season series against the Panthers and captured the one that counts the most in a defensive battle that saw only 5 shots on goal for Bulls in the entire contest, most of them coming in the second half.

The one shot that counted came 4 minutes into the second half when Marin Yeagle redirected a corner kick with an assist from Kylee Ehmann. The shot got by Panthers keeper Lexi Evangelista for the games only score. Coming in to Tuesday’s game, Evangelista had an outstanding GAA of 0.134 with just one goal against on 53 shots for Plant this season.

The Bulls allowed 8 Panthers shots on the night that were all stopped by keeper Mackenzie Spurling for her seventh shutout of the season.

With the win, Wiregrass Ranch is guaranteed a ticket to the Regional tournament. Where those games take place will be decided Thursday night when the take on Palm Harbor U. for the district title. Both teams will make the Regional playoffs with the winner earning home field advantage.
