WESLEY CHAPEL – Both the boys and girls Wiregrass Ranch soccer teams remain in the FHSAA 5A State championship tournament. The boys advanced Wednesday night by virtue of a 3-2 victory over the Riverview Sarasota Rams.

The Bulls opened the scoring early in the ninth minute when Jori Ndrita put the ball in the back of the net past Rams keeper Blake Harper.

Riverview (12-7-4) responded quickly, 4 minutes later with a goal by Nixon Jodhan his first of the season to tie the game at one-all. That’s how the half would end with the score knotted at 1-1.

Just as in the first half the Bulls would strike early in the 48th minute on a goal by Malcolm Lewis for his 20th of the year, to give Wiregrass a 2-1 lead. Just three minutes later the Bulls added to that lead with a Justin Amis strike, his 20th to give Wiregrass Ranch a 2-goal advantage.

With plenty of fight left, Riverview closed the gap at the 58-minute mark on a goal by senior forward Paul Kurpiewski his 13th to decrease the Bulls lead to one, but that’s all they could muster.

With the win Wiregrass Ranch advances to the 5A, Region 2 semi-final to be played at Lakewood Ranch on the 9th of February.
