WESLEY CHAPEL – The Springstead Eagles (11-3) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead Wednesday night to overcome the Wiregrass Ranch Bulls (4-10) in a late inning pitching duel.

All the offense came early at the Ranch with the runs being scored by the end of the third inning. The visiting Springstead Eagles jumped out early in the top of the first when Emily Kolwicz scored on a sacrifice fly by Jenna Ryan. Raquel Camuglia followed with a single scoring Mariah Galhouse before she got caught trying to stretch to second base.

The Eagles added another run in the third when Ryan doubled with one out scoring Hannah Rizzuto who opened the inning with a double of her own.

The Bulls answered in the bottom of the inning when Kailey Riddlesworth reached on a bunt and an error by Galhouse. Riddlesworth scored on a fielder’s choice hit by Ashtin Jordan but that’s all Wiregrass could muster.

Galhouse led the pitching efforts for Springstead going all seven innings and allowing just one unearned run. She also threw a .75 strike ratio tossing 21 of 29 first pitch strikes.

Lexi Gaiefsky took the loss for Wiregrass allowing 3 runs in 2.1 innings. Hailey Vazquez and Abbey Vyas combined to keep the Eagles hitless for the remainder of the game.
