LAND O’LAKES – The Gulf Buccaneers (9-7-1, 3-4-1) entered the FHSAA 3A, District 8 tournament as the number four seed. After a victory against Land O’ Lakes Monday in the quarter-final round they had to face favored number one seed Sunlake (14-5-5, 5-0-1) in the semi-final.

With three goals in the opening half, Gulf opened a lead that the Seahawks couldn’t close. Sunlake added a goal to their total in the second session only to be matched by a determined band of Buccaneers for the 4-2 Gulf win and a trip to Friday’s final that will be held at Sunlake.

The Bucs will face number two seed River Ridge in the final match Friday night at 7:00 pm. The Royal Knights beat Gulf back in early December 4-2 in a game that was held at River Ridge.
