WESLEY CHAPEL – The Wesley Chapel Wildcats advanced to the Regional semi final game Tuesday night with a 2-0 win over the Gators of Land O’ Lakes.

The District 7 champion Wildcats (18-3-2) who were without the services of their top goal scorer in senior Heather Sefton (20 goal), brought the defense against an improving Land O’ Lakes squad to only allow three shots over the entire game. Wesley Chapel’s keeper M Holcombe manage saves on all three attempts for the shutout.

The Gators, who began the season 0-6 came on strong in the later part of the season with a 10-2-1 finish to get to the District 8 title game against River Ridge and finish as District runner-up to qualify for the FHSAA Regional tournament.

Maddy Golka, with an assist from captain Sydney Bauer, opened the scoring for the Wildcats on a shot that got by Gators keep Mackenzie Cameron for the opening score.

The other Wildcats score came unassisted via a penalty kick from close range by Katie Dixon after a foul that occurred inside 18-yard box.

Wesley Chapel will move on to the Regional semi-final to face District 8 champs River Ridge (11-6-1) Friday night with the winner advancing to the Regional final to be held on February 12th.
