BROOKSVILLE – – The Pasco Pirates (19-0-3) won their school’s seventh District Title Friday with a 3-1 win over the Nature Coast Sharks (16-8-1) in a spirited and physical contest at Hernando High School.

This was the third meeting this season between the two teams. The first, at W.F. Edwards Stadium resulted in a 2-2 tie, one of three for the Pirates, and the second at Brooksville, in the Shark Tank, Pasco prevailed 2-1 with goals by Jason Nicolette and Migual Flores.

The Pirates struck in the 30th minute when a shot by Flores struck Justice Pye, The Sharks keeper, and rebounded to an uncovered Mario Garcia who blazed a shot into the back of the net for the game’s opening score.

The Sharks Tony Howard returned the favor to Pasco just seven minutes later, beating Augustus Hoff to tie the score at 1-1 at the end of the half.

The tempo and physical play accelerated in the second half resulting in a total of eight yellow cards issued by the officials. Flores ended the tie early in the second half with his 14th of the year and in the 57th minute the captain Nicolette, kicked in the night-capper with his 28th goal of the season for the 3-1 final.

The three amigos, Nicolette, Garcia and Flores have combined for 51 goals and 42 assists this season. Garcia’s efforts Friday earned him the game’s MVP award.

The Pirates 3-1 victory in this third meeting may not be the last time these two teams get together. Should Pasco win at home next Wednesday night and the Sharks prevail at River Ridge, the two will meet for the fourth time in a “must see” 3A, FHSAA Regional semi final game on the 9h of February at W.F.
