DADE CITY – The Pasco Pirates (6-1) and Zephyrhills Bulldogs (7-7) boy’s tennis teams battled it out on the courts at Pasco high school Tuesday afternoon with Pasco coming out on top 4 matches to 3.

The match of the day was between the Pirates #1, Freshman Logan Haga and Zephyrhills Junior J.P. Hansen. Haga, ranked 29th Nationally by MaxPreps, came into the match undefeated at 9-0 in #1 singles and has won every set this season shutting out his opponents 6-0 except for one outing against Land O’ Lakes where he dropped just two games winning the match 6-3.

Hansen, who has been the Bulldogs #1 and District Champion since he was a freshman, was the only #1 player this year to defeat Destiny Okungbowa of Wiregrass Ranch on the way to a 13-0 start so far this year.

Tuesday’s match started with a 6-3 first set win for Hansen, Haga’s first set loss this season. The second set also went to Hansen 6-4 taking him to 14-0 and handing Haga his first defeat of the year.

It won’t get any easier for Haga as he will face Okungbowa of Wiregrass Ranch next Tuesday at Pasco.
