DADE CITY – The Sunlake Seahawks finished their season with a 3-0 away shutout (25-8, 25-18- 25-12) vs. the Pasco Pirates Wednesday night.

The Seahawks freshman Kylie Ciani led the way with 10 kills followed closely by Rachel Passarello with 8 and Sofia McGuire with 5. Kamea Nash pitched in 5 serving aces Ciani added 3 more.

The only lead for the Pirates came in the second game when they started 2-0 but were quickly overtaken 7-2. The Pirates gained some momentum midgame to get within 2 points 15-13 but the Seahawks were just too strong and pulled away again for the 25-18 game two win.

Game three began with a 4-1 Seahawks lead and Sunlake never looked back. The lead went to 21-9 before the 25-12 game, set and match winner.

Both teams will head to their respective district playoff beginning next Tuesday. Pasco, 5-2 in Class 6A, district 8 play is seeded third behind River Ridge (5-1) and district leader Fivay (7-0). The District tournament being held at Gulf High School, will culminate with the championship match Thursday night.

Sunlake will enter their 7A, District 8 tournament at Land O’ Lakes as the number one seed with a district record of 5-1 and an overall mark of 20-3. The 7A,8 tournament will be short but tough as the four teams enter the playoffs with an overall record of 59-33.
