WESLEY CHAPEL – The Visiting Anclote Sharks (13-4, 11-1) took over the lead in FHSAA 6A, District 8 Friday night by virtue of an 89-64 win over the Wesley Chapel Wildcats (15-5, 9-3)

After a thrilling Junior Varsity battle that went to the Wildcats in OT, The Varsity took the court in a game to decide the District 8 leader. Anclote won the first match up of the season on their home court so this game was almost a “must win” for the Wildcats to gain the number one seed in the district.

The Sharks took charge from the tip off opening up an 11-point lead after the first 8 minutes, 26-15. Jalen Cooper rained down five 3-pointers scoring 17 in the opening session on rout to an Anclote school record night posting an outstanding total of 41-points for the game. Cooper had the hot hand from beyond the bonus line sinking a total 9 treys on the night.

Jacobie Forrest and Jakob Hester were the other two major contributors for the Sharks, Forrest with 17 and Hester with 19 on the night.

The Wildcats in double figures for the game were Isaiah Ramsey with 18, Ethan Jones with 16 and Jelani Vassell with 11.

Anclote will remain on the road to take on struggling Mitchell (4-14, 1-6) Monday night, while the Wildcats stay in the Den to play district opponent Hudson (3-12, 2-9) in a salute to their three seniors; Donte Sol, Guy Sanchez and team captain, Trystan Hanson.
