LAND O’ LAKES – The Sunlake Seahawks had little trouble getting by the Hillsborough Terriers Wednesday night to advance to the FHSAA 7A Region 2 semifinal round. The Seahawks downed Hillsborough 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-12).

The Terriers started the night with a bang taking the first four points in the first set but that advantage didn’t last long as the Seahawks caught their stride and breezed by Hillsborough to take the first set 25-15 and never trailed in the match from that point.

Senior Rachel Passarello was named MaxPreps player of the game for her serving performance in the match registering 7 service aces. Passarello, the Seahawks serving ace, has 43 aces for the season with 13 coming in the playoffs that started on October 10th.

Outstanding freshman Kylie Ciani put away 13 kills on the night. The song Sweet Caroline could be heard from the Sunlake bench as Junior Caroline Schoonover registered 11 kills. Ciani, who has an outstanding 234 kills in 71 sets played this season also is sporting a .485 hitting percentage.

With the win the Seahawks move on to face Mitchell at home next Tuesday night in the Semifinal round. The Mustangs advanced by handily beating Brandon 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 22-25, 25-12). Very similar to the 2015 season when the two vied for the Regional crown, Tuesday’s meeting will be the fourth this season. Each won their home matches 3-0 with the Seahawks taking a close 3-1 decision (25-19, 23-25, 25-6, 27-25) in the District final at Land O’ Lakes two weeks ago.
